Carbon vs. Aluminum Trekking Poles: What Actually Matters
Every pole comparison eventually comes down to the same question: carbon or aluminum? The honest answer is that neither one wins — they fail differently, and which failure mode you’d rather have depends on where you’re headed.

Why this is the actual trade-off, not a ranking
A lighter pole that damps vibration well makes a real difference over a long day — your hands and joints notice it by the last few miles. But “lighter and stiffer” also means less give when something goes wrong. Aluminum’s extra weight buys forgiveness: a bent pole is usually still a usable pole.
If weight matters most — long days, steep vertical — go carbon. If durability and peace of mind on rocky, technical terrain matter most, go aluminum.
Neither answer is wrong. It depends on what you’re actually walking on.

Our poles are carbon fiber. If your trips lean technical and rocky, repeated side impacts are a real reason to consider aluminum instead; one material is not right for everyone.
